Elsewhere

  • I have no idea if Dave Hakstol is a decent NHL coach, I just laugh at it like “well… maybe that?” There are so many coaching changes. Hakstol or his team made it into the playoffs last year with above-average performance (and too high a shooting percentage), but then fell back to earth this season. Ron Francis fired him, saying, “You know, we're looking at our organization and just looking at the season. I thought we were a little more inconsistent than before, a few losing streaks too many and losing streaks in significant numbers.” . And so we just felt like it was time to try out a new voice here.” [NHL | TSN]
  • Even with two days between games, the Leafs are still sweating over whether Auston Matthews will be fit for Game 5. Or maybe they’re just trying to create a “Jordan flu game” drama? [TSN | NHL]

  • The Oilers are showing “maturity” by being poised to eliminate the Kings again. [NHL]
  • Steven Stamkos is out of contract, but no, he wasn't thinking about the possible end of his tenure with the Lightning while his team fought for survival. [NHL]
