Timor-Leste made its debut at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan today, marking a historic participation for the emerging Southeast Asian country.

Antonio Nicolau Hau Da Silva is the first boxer from Timor-Leste to compete in an ASBC Asian Boxing Championship. Timor-Leste only took part in the previous editions of the Southeast Asian Games, winning a few medals there, as well as in some Asian Games boxing events.

The 22-year-old Da Silva is their most experienced boxer in this age group and the minimum weight (48kg) talent was hotly contested against Mongolia's Tuvshinzaya Otgonbayar. Da Silva continued to come forward in the second round and had nice hooks, but the Mongolian had the routine to handle the tactical tasks in this fight.

Da Silva lost that round of 16 preliminary round game in Astana, but he showed his talent in our sport and made history for Timor-Leste.
